The Spectre of Respect

Tony Benn famously declared on retiring from Parliament that he had left in order 'to spend more time on politics'. I suppose I feel a little that way about my early 'retirement' from the blogosphere, but just as Tony Benn still pops back into the House of Commons tea room on occasion, so I have written a short guest post for Dave Osler's blog on The spectre of Respect, about, er, the Respect Coalition.

Its 'Dr' Zoidberg to you, but thank you kindly for the offer to join the scary door team. Unfortunately my agent has informed me that the 'January transfer window' for British blog transfers has now closed so such a deal looks impossible for now. And lets face it, Scary Door are a bit like a tough scrappy, hardworking Championship side, hungry for promotion and so demanding a lot from its players in terms of commitment.

If I was going to come out of retirement proper I would be kind of hoping for a transfer to a less stressful smaller profile blog, a kind of golden-handshake Beckham-style 'LA Galaxy' type deal...

You're "retirement" is a travesty and has set back the revolutionary blog movement for years. Shame.

Doug - yes, the capitalist class in Britain can't believe their luck...

Perhaps I could, like Rocky Balboa, be tempted back out of retirement at some point...just to get blogging finally out of my system. 'It ain't over till its over...'

By the way, should any Histomat readers be considering going to watch the latest Rocky film (which is kind of unlikely), it really is not worth bothering with.

I can't make my way through the "good" original Rocky. Frankly, I had more fun watching the idiotic Rocky IV.

Perhaps you should simply scale down the goals of the blog, committing to a weekly (and meaty) post.

The way that Rocky singlehandedly ended the Cold War in Rocky 4 was quite remarkable, agreed.

The problem is I kind of lack the time for any sort of weekly post at the moment - let alone a 'meaty' one. In a few months, things may be resumed to some kind of normal service - that is the best I can say.
